Helping Our Neighbors This Holiday Season

One of the most important gifts you can offer to people in need is nutritious food. The holiday season is a time when this is more essential than ever as families come together and may not be able to afford to feed everyone in their household. With the help of Hearts’ annual Feed A Family initiative, we hope to help those in need with a traditional Thanksgiving Day meal; to help them come together and keep their holiday traditions going for everyone in the family this holiday season. We are excited to share with you a few family traditions from our neighbors in Riverside and through your generosity, Hearts will be able to lend a hand feeding families with dignity.

The Velez family looks forward to cooking as a family of seven. Their favorite items to cook are pies and the turkey. “Sometimes it’s hard to find a turkey we can afford to feed all of us”, said Mrs. Velez. They regularly shop at the Hearts Harvest Food Pantry and without assistance, they would not be able to provide their family of seven a Thanksgiving Day meal.

The Howard family is thankful “to celebrate another holiday”. This family of 10 enjoys their family-style potluck dishes such as shrimp tuna salad and stuffing. Their Thanksgiving tradition of home-made stuffing would not be possible without the generosity from the community.

Giving thanks for their children is what Mr. and Mrs. Nizamoff are most thankful for every year. Their family of 12 says grace before every meal, not just on Thanksgiving, stating their gratitude for Hearts and the food provided to feed their large family of 12.

By donating a frozen turkey to Hearts’ Feed A Family initiative or sponsoring a family through Hearts for $35 to cover the cost of food items we will purchase, it will allow our neighbors to share in the joy this holiday season. Please join us in praying for all who are involved with this initiative: donors, volunteers and the families receiving this Thanksgiving blessing.
