Bring your returnable cans and bottles to our Redemption Center for processing and you'll receive 6 cents for each deposit! By processing your returns with Hearts, you'll not only receive the 6 cents, but you'll help us feed those in need in Western New York.
Hearts for the Homeless® works to feed and clothe and chronic poor and homeless in Buffalo and Western New York. The Redemption Center, located on our ministry campus in Riverside, is one of many ways we continue serving those in need.
When a can or bottle is deposited at Hearts, we give 6 cents (rather than the traditional 5 cents) back to our community members making the deposit, and Hearts receives 2.5 cents that goes directly to help fund our outreach programs like our Mobile Soup Kitchen and Hearts Harvest Food Pantry. We are also happy to provide this recycling program to keep our neighborhoods clean.
The 2.5 cents that our organization receives for processing the cans and bottles adds up to help provide meals to those in need of food as we build relationships and share the love of Christ.
How It Works
To return cans and bottles with Hearts, start by visiting our ministry campus at 870 Tonawanda Street in Riverside. The Redemption Center is open every Monday through Saturday from 9:30am - 4:30pm. You can access the entrance from the street.
Insert NYS returnable cans and bottles into the machines in the Redemption Center. The returnable barcode must be readable in order for the machines to accept the deposit.
Once you have finished your deposit and receive your ticket from the machines, simply walk across the parking lot to Hearts Thrift Shop to exchange your ticket for cash at the register. We're happy to offer a discount on your same day purchase in the Thrift Shop as a thank you for partnering with us!
Our recycling program is a great way to fundraise for your group, club, organization or special project. By partnering with Hearts, 6 cents for each of your cans and bottles goes towards the goal you're working towards. While you get an extra penny per returnable, you support our mission by using Hearts as your processor. This contributes 2.5 cents per returnable to feed and clothe the homeless in our area.
Many lives can be impacted through fundraising with Hearts versus a traditional for-profit redemption center that can only provide a 5 cent return. By using Hearts, you get an extra penny per container and we are using our processing return to help those in need.
We are happy to discuss the best option for hosting a can and bottle drive. From one day drives to ongoing campaigns, our team is ready to help you raise funds with a practically limitless source of income!
If you have a special need or idea for your fundraiser, let's talk about how Hearts can help. We're willing to work with you and see what we can do to run a successful can and bottle drive.

Donate Directly to Hearts
Hearts can also accept your generous donations of cans and bottles which contributes 8.5 cents per returnable towards the work of the organization. This is a simple way to continuously partner with us!
To donate, you can process your donations at Hearts Redemption Center and bring your ticket to any staff member in the Thrift Shop. Or you can drop off your donation in the white can and bottle donation bin at the side door of our main building at 890 Tonawanda Street (accessible from the parking lot). Just like our red clothing donation bins, we're happy to offer this option for quick and easy drop offs.
To receive a receipt for your donation, please ring the bell and a Hearts Staff Member will provide you a hardcopy receipt, or click here.
If you or your organization has a large quantity of cans and bottles or if you have any questions about donating, please call our main office at 716-877-3536 or email us at email@example.com.
Thank you for your donation to Hearts for the Homeless®! Your can and bottle contributions benefit families and individuals who face homelessness and food insecurity in Western New York.
If you are interested in hosting a white can and bottle donation bin at your church or business, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with your location and contact information.
