On Our Hearts

It’s snowing today;

as we write to you on this November 7th, the first snow of the season is reminding us of what’s ahead. For Hearts’ it reminds us that the Holiday Season is very near.

The phone is ringing with people wanting to do something special for those in need. People are knocking on our door or visiting the thrift shop with donations of food, clothing, warm winter wear and blankets to give to those we go out to feed daily downtown.

Western New Yorkers you have big hearts! The warmth from your hearts pours out into your donations, gifts, and volunteerism. Every pair of socks or gloves, food item, warm blanket, toiletry, or clothing that is shared by our Mobile Crews, someone was waiting for that very article you donated that day. Throughout the holidays, our volunteer teams, donors, and friends like you bring in holiday goodies that we distribute to those in our feeding lines. This really helps to keep their spirits up knowing that many people care about them.

Thank you for including the poor and homeless in your Holiday season. For the fourth year in a row, the generosity and hard work of Zion Dominion Global Outreach makes it possible for our poor and homeless clients to experience a Thanksgiving dinner, right out there on the streets, where Hearts serves at the downtown library. The clients love the opportunity to have turkey with all the trimmings.

The homeless and poor will be our guests again at this year’s annual Christmas Eve Dinner, a day of celebration, music, dinner, and more, put together especially for them. Hearts partners with the Buffalo Dream Center every year, who pick up the homeless and poor from 5 different locations and transport them by bus so they can enjoy a Christmas Eve dinner and celebration together with us.
