On Our Hearts

Remembering with Honor & Love Ardrey Yorko, Hearts Volunteer from 1996 – 2016

Hearts long-standing volunteer went on to her heavenly home last week at the age of 91. She served at Hearts well into her 80’s and was loved and admired. Ardrey gave her all for the underprivileged, starting her morning at Hearts making sandwiches for the homeless, afternoons were for cleaning up in the thrift shop, then finished her day by feeding the homeless at the dinner hour. Her dedication to serving will never be forgotten at Hearts!

“Blessed is the one who cares for the poor!” Psalm 41:1 BSB

We are blessed. We serve in confidence and reassurance that you, our partners, trust us to carrying out the programs we undertake daily. The homeless and poor receive an evening meal; families in the Blackrock Riverside area supplement their budget through Hearts Harvest Food Pantry; and Hearts Thrift Shop continues to reach the community by offering quality clothing and housewares (donated by you) at affordable prices and giving at no cost when the need is made known. Monthly, we are excited to share all that we achieve and witness on the street, in our thrift store, and at the food pantry because of your partnership.

You are blessed. You allow us to serve and care for the poor and homeless with ease and you give in generous portions. No matter what you are giving, it is meant for someone that will pass our way. Your finances allow us to keep the ministry of Hearts for the Homeless’ programs running. Your volunteer time enables us to run our programs. For caring for these, you are immeasurably blessed.

They are blessed. Our immediate community and those we serve at the downtown library receive freely the provisions we distribute. They are so thankful and hand us their hearts through their words, a look in their eyes, sighs of relief, and even smiles on their faces. They know they can depend on us to be there – we never want to let them down. In their despair, they have been blessed. Together we can accomplish much more, each of us has a part. We are grateful for each one of you.

Our new Food Pantry is a perfect opportunity to help Hearts serve our
community. There are a variety of tasks to be done, including being a
shopping assistant. If you are interested in volunteering in our Food Pantry,
please call our office at 877-3536.

Talk from the Street & Heart

In February, Hearts Mobile Soup Kitchen served meals to 1,246 people at the downtown library of which 546 were homeless, 20 were children (2 infants), and 65 were seniors. We prayed for a man who just received a diagnosis of colon cancer.

This young guy just received this winter hat the night before from Hearts; he was so happy to have it for this cold evening on the street.
