We are excited to introduce to you and ask for your partnership as we work towards a brand new launch: Hearts Food Pantry Express!
Over the last three decades, Hearts has, and continues, to serve primarily in the City of Buffalo. This program will present a new and unique opportunity for Hearts to travel beyond the borders of the city limits and provide food to different communities within Western New York.
The Food Pantry Express will require a new asset, the bus itself, but we are utilizing the existing infrastructure. This infrastructure includes storage space, walk-in freezers and refrigerators for back stock of food to support the existing work of Hearts and this new program. Made possible by decades of support, we are able to launch new programs and expand our reach to more people in different neighborhoods outside of the City of Buffalo.
How It Works
Hearts Food Pantry Express brings a client-choice food pantry into communities in need that we have identified with our partners including FeedMore WNY. These areas are facing consistent gaps in service because either food pantries do not exist or those in need can not reach them from a lack of transportation. One major benefit of this project is that when needs shift or change, we can adjust where we provide our mobile services. We also have the vehicle to use in the event of emergencies. The Food Pantry Express can temporarily support existing local food pantries during times of crisis to prevent significant gaps in reliable service.
Food insecurity exists in neighborhoods around our region including Kenmore and the Cleveland-Hill area. These residents are often required to travel to other communities to find resources which causes added burdens to their situation. Hearts is dedicating the Food Pantry Express to not only help physically nourish the members of these communities but also feed people spiritually. We believe it is a great privilege and honor to meet new faces and form relationships with our neighbors outside of the city of Buffalo.
