Hearts Is Awarded Grant From The Odd Fellow & Rebekah Fund

Nourishing the community through dignified service, Hearts for the Homeless® has been feeding the poor and homeless population consistently since 1990. As part of our main ministry center, Hearts has a commercial kitchen as a key component to prepare nourishing meals for those in need.

For close to 25 years the commercial kitchen at Hearts has largely remained unchanged and has been preparing meals to serve those in need year after year. In turn, impacting the lives of tens of thousands of our brothers and sisters. Originally designed specifically for the Hearts Mobile Soup Kitchen, the kitchen has become stretched to capacity and to its capabilities. As staff and volunteers prepare meals using donated produce and other items, the kitchen’s limitations are becoming evident.

The Odd Fellow and Rebekah Benefit Fund has awarded Hearts for the Homeless® a grant in the amount of $36,278 for a new walk-in cooler and shelving units to kick off renovating the Hearts Commercial Kitchen at 890 Tonawanda St. Hearts will remodel the commercial kitchen in order to increase the effectiveness of our programs and ensure nutritious meals are provided to the poor and homeless. All of the meals we provide through our mobile soup kitchen, to our community partners, and our homeless shelter partners are prepared in our commercial kitchen on Hearts’ campus. This is an exciting time for us as this project not only opens doors of opportunity for us in the future, but modernizing our kitchen promotes the safety and efficiency of our full time cook, outreach staff, and countless volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to preparing nourishing meals in a kitchen that promotes safety and health for our community.

Please stay tuned for ways to get involved with this renovation. In the meantime, please pray with us that God will continue to use Hearts in big ways!
