Donations Of All Shapes & Sizes

Here at Hearts, the donation items we receive are not only heartwarming but crucial to our local homeless population. These donations come in all shapes and sizes, each of them serving a specific purpose and making life just a little bit easier for somebody in need. We’d like to honor some of our past donors while also potentially giving new donors an idea of how they can help their local community.

Corporate Donations

We’ve been blessed with some large-scale donations in the past. Most recently, the company SoapBox reached out to us and asked if we were interested in receiving some soap that we could then distribute to our clients. We quickly accepted, as soap is one item that is crucial to the safety and wellbeing of the homeless but is often overlooked by donors. For every product that is purchased, Soapbox partners with Clean The World to then have a bar of soap created & donated. Imagine the magnitude and impact of their work when they showed up to Hearts with 10,000 bars of soap! Similarly, the company Bombas has donated large quantities of new socks in the past, another crucial item for the homeless. These donations show the power that an organization can have in the lives of those less fortunate.

Individual Donations

Large-scale donations make a grand impact, but not every donation needs to come in on a pallet. Some of the most impactful donations that we have received are given over the course of decades through continued support. Al and Arlene have made it a habit to donate soap, socks, and razors some of the most important donation items every single week for the last 15 years. This kind of dedication to the betterment of our community has led to the donation of thousands of items with a minimal impact on the couple’s wallet.

Bob and Sandy are another perfect example of how a monthly habit can literally change lives. Every month Bob & Sandy make specific shopping trips to donate to Hearts, which is used to make meals to feed the homeless. Every month they read our newsletter and find out which items we are most in need of, then add it to their weekly shopping trips. They’ve been doing this for over 10 years. Their continued support has helped us feed thousands of people.

Donatable Items

Whether you’re donating one item, a personal care bag of items, or a truckload of items, all donations are important to the safety and well-being of our homeless population. While our needs at Hearts constantly change, the items below are always needed. Please consider donating the following:

Clothing

We accept new or gently used clothing items in all sizes for men, women, and children. We are always in need of men’s items as 95% of our clients are male. Men’s T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants in sizes large and up are much appreciated. Remember that we also accept shoes/boots of all kinds! Additionally, try to be concurrent with the season when donating clothing items. This will allow us to take your donation and immediately give it to somebody in need, rather than waiting for the right season.

Hotel Items

Staying at a hotel? Are there toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion that will go unused and unopened? Donate those items! These travel-size toiletries are extremely helpful to the homeless who may not have the space or capacity to carry around full-size toiletries. Next time you go on a vacation or business trip, pack those toiletries and bring them back with you and, in turn, help somebody in need.
