Check-Out Hunger at the Hearts Thrift Stores

Community members can help nourish their fellow neighbors experiencing food insecurity at any Hearts Thrift Store location. Customers may round up their purchase at the register to support Hearts for the Homeless® in our mission to provide meals with dignity to people in need.

The Hearts Thrift Stores are committed to helping battle food insecurity and couldn’t do it without the wonderful donations that we receive from generous donors. We ask that, if you are able, to please help support your fellow neighbors in need next time you check out at the Hearts Thrift Stores. Making a contribution is easy. When shopping at any of the Hearts Thrift Store locations, simply tell your cashier you’d like to help ‘Check-Out Hunger,’ and your donation will help provide a meal for someone in need. Every donation makes a difference.

It only costs $2.45 to provide a meal for someone in need. By rounding up to the nearest dollar during check out, your donation brings us that much closer to achieving our goal in providing a meal with dignity. These meals are provided to our homeless shelter partnerships and through the Hearts Mobile Soup Kitchen.

Hearts for the Homeless® is also the evening meal provider to both Code Blue shelters in Buffalo. With 31 days in the month of January, Code Blue was in effect for 29 of them in 2024. Hearts for the Homeless® provided 4,350 meals directly to the shelters in January alone.

In just the first two months of 2024, Hearts for the Homeless® has provided 12,712 meals to men, women and children.

Everyone needs nutritious food to thrive. Rounding up your purchase at the Hearts Thrift Stores will make it possible for us to provide nutritious food to community members of all ages, helping to pave the way for better health and success. We are grateful to our donors and we encourage Western New York shoppers to participate in checking out hunger.
