It almost feels like yesterday that the kids were getting out of school and summer was starting. Now, school is back in session, the temperature is dropping, and the leaves are beginning to change color once again. With time flying as it does, we should all take advantage of the crisp weather and unique opportunities that fall offers. If you are not sure of what to do, we have put together a list to get you started.

Apple Picking

While the days of picnics and pool visits are coming to a close, now is the perfect time to go apple picking! There are plenty of orchards around Western New York for you and your family to visit. Going apple picking is a great way to spend a quiet Sunday and spend some quality time with the people you love. The best part is that after you get home, you will be able to make a delicious apple pie!

Hiking

With the lower temperatures and changing leaves, now is the perfect time to go hiking. Western New York is home to a wide variety of hikes with gorgeous views that are within an hour’s drive of Buffalo. Make sure to hit the trails now though. With how fast the temperature drops around here, you will blink and it will be snowing again. So make sure to check out a scenic trail or two while the weather is perfect!

Celebrate

The fall is full of reasons to celebrate. There’s Oktoberfest, football games, harvest festivals and more. Finding a fun outing to attend with your family and friends can be a great fall activity! There are plenty of festivals around Western New York, and if you cannot find one that you like, do not be afraid to throw a party yourself! Invite some loved ones over and bring out the good food and fun games!

Hay Rides

There are few things that symbolize fall more than going on a hayride. This fun fall tradition is a great activity for all ages! Hayrides are a low-risk, relaxing way to spend a crisp fall night or a lazy Sunday afternoon. Western New York offers plenty of options for hayrides that should fit anyone’s speed.

Shopping

With summer over it is time to start thinking about fall and winter fashions. Western New York gets cold pretty quickly, so finding good, warm, affordable sweaters and jackets should be at the top of your list. Decorating for fall can also get you into the spirit of the season, but outfitting your house festively can be exhaustive to your budget. The next time you go shopping, consider skipping expensive department stores and check out your local thrift shop. One of the best places to check out in Western New York is Hearts Thrift Shop. Our prices are affordable, and currently, all Fall decor is marked 50% off! Likewise, it should warm the heart to know all proceeds go to giving back to the community through our Mobile Soup Kitchen and eventually will sponsor our Hearts Harvest Pantry and Cafe upon completion. The next time you are out shopping in the area, shop with us and know that you are directly supporting those in need.
